Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace

Course introduction:
The AoFAQ Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace (QCF) has been accredited by the regulators of England and Wales (Ofqual and the Welsh Government) and is part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

The qualification is aimed at all employees’ weather new starters, currently in employment or seeking work.

The purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge to identify workplace hazards and contribute to the positive health and safety culture within the workplace. The qualification contains subjects which are essential in maintaining a safe working environment.

The qualification also provides a demonstration of the employer’s commitment to fulfil their legal obligation to provide training to its employees.

The qualification is suitable for ages 16+ and there are no pre-requisites to attend the course.

Course aim:
The aim of the course is to provide learners with an introduction to health and safety in the workplace and equip them with the knowledge
to promote a positive approach to the health and safety culture.

Objectives to be addressed in whole scheme:

Session 1:
Roles and responsibilities for Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
By the end of the session, learners will be able to:
• Identify the legal duties of the employer
• Identify the legal duties of the employee
• State the consequences for failing to comply with Health and Safety Legislation
• List the methods the employer can communicate health and safety with employees.

Session 2: Risk Assessments
By the end of the session, learners will be able to:
• Define the terms ‘hazard’, ‘risk’ and ‘control measures’
• Outline the risk assessment process
• State how a risk assessment can be used to reduce accidents and ill health at work

Session 3: Common Workplace Hazards
By the end of the session, you will be able to:
• State the common hazards found in the workplace
• Describe how common workplace hazards can cause harm or damage to people, organisations and property
• Describe the principle of risk control
• List examples of risk control for common workplace hazards
• Identify the categories of common workplace signage

Session 4: Accidents and Incidents in the Workplace
By the end of the session, learners will be able to:
• List the common causes of workplace accidents
• State the requirements for reporting workplace accidents
• List the factors which can contribute to causing accidents in the workplace
• State the first aid requirements in the workplace
• List the reasons why accidents should be reported to the employer

This course is free to all BID businesses.
